Winchester martial artist Bunny Hawkersmith speaks to women at a self defense demonstration at First Baptist Church. Four homicides over the past year in Franklin County prompted some women to contact authorities and Hawkersmith for help in putting together the class Tuesday. Chris Guess, with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said the two most recent murders were domestic-related and took the lives of two young mothers.
One female law enforcement official said she believes that it is the responsibility of every woman to defend herself: “And as women wet should be looking out for each other.”
