Area law enforcement officials made a joint announcement Wednesday evening of the arrest of Michael L. Curtis for the murder of Kayla Qualls, age 23, of Tullahoma.
Qualls’ beaten body was found Monday by hunters in Franklin County. She was abandoned in an SUV registered to her name. Officials said the murder apparently took place in Coffee County, in Tullahoma.
Officials say that someone, perhaps assisting Curtis, took Qualls to a remote area in neighboring Franklin County, Tenn., and abandoned her dead body and vehicle along Spring Creek Road.
Qualls apparently died from blunt force trauma.
Curtis is in the Coffee County Jail on first degree murder charges. He’s being held on $1 million bond and will appear in court Monday.
Curtis’ son, a former befriend of Qualls’, and the father of their two children, is also a person of interest in the case.
Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller said Curtis implicated himself in the killing.
